How to use this tool

Example

Make a 20-second ringtone

Upload the song, drag the start to 0:45 and the end to 1:05, choose MP3 at 192 kbps, and export. You get a 20-second MP3 clip ready to set as a ringtone, created entirely on your device.

Trim the start off a voice memo

Upload an M4A memo that has ten seconds of fumbling at the start. Move the start handle to 0:10, leave the end at the finish, and save as MP3. The cleaned clip keeps only the part you want.

Common mistakes

  • Setting the end before the start - the end must be after the start, or the tool will ask you to fix it.
  • Expecting the clip to sound better than the source - trimming does not change quality, it only shortens; choosing MP3 at a low bitrate can add slight loss.
  • Trying to trim a very long recording on an older phone - decoding the whole file to audio uses memory, so long files can be slow on low-memory devices.
  • Forgetting to pick the output format - the clip is exported in the format you select, which does not have to match the input.

Frequently asked questions

Can I trim MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG and FLAC?

Yes. The trimmer reads any audio your browser can decode, including MP3, WAV, M4A/AAC, OGG and FLAC, and it can export the trimmed selection as MP3, WAV, OGG or FLAC. The output format does not have to match the input.

Is my audio uploaded to a server?

No. Decoding, trimming, and encoding all happen in your browser using the Web Audio API and WebAssembly. Your file never leaves your device, so it is safe for private recordings, and it keeps working even if you go offline after the page loads.

Does trimming reduce the audio quality?

Trimming itself is lossless - it just shortens the audio. Any quality change comes only from the output format you choose. Export to WAV or FLAC for a lossless clip, or to MP3/OGG at a higher bitrate to keep the file small with minimal loss.

How precise is the cut?

The sliders step in hundredths of a second, and the cut is made at the nearest audio sample, so it is accurate to a few milliseconds. Use the built-in player to confirm your start and end points before exporting.

Can I make a ringtone with this?

Yes. Select the section you want, keep it under about 30 seconds, and export as MP3. You can then set the file as a ringtone on most phones. Everything is done in your browser with no app to install.

Is there a length or size limit?

There is a 150 MB per-file guard so the browser tab stays stable. The trimmed output can be any length up to the original. Very long source files use more memory to decode, so they may be slower on older devices.
