Common mistakes

  • Expecting perfect edges on fine hair or fur - AI cutouts are very good but tricky wisps can need a touch-up in an editor.
  • Using a low-contrast subject - a subject that blends into the background is harder to separate cleanly; a clearer photo gives a better cutout.
  • Saving as JPG afterwards - JPG has no transparency, so keep the PNG if you need the see-through background.
  • Worrying the first run is slow - that is the one-time model download; later runs are fast because it is cached.

Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. This is the key difference from most background removers. The AI model runs entirely in your browser, so your photo is processed on your own device and never uploaded. Only the model itself is downloaded to you, not the other way around.

Why is the first run slow?

The first time you use it, your browser downloads the AI model (about 45 MB) once. That model is then cached, so every later background removal starts immediately. The download only happens the first time.

What do I get out?

A PNG with a transparent background, so you can place the subject on any colour or scene. The preview shows a checkerboard pattern where the background used to be, which represents transparency.

What kind of photos work best?

Photos with a clear subject - a person, product, animal, or object - work best. Good lighting and contrast between the subject and background give the cleanest cutout. Very low-contrast or cluttered scenes are harder.

Does it need an internet connection?

Only for the one-time model download on the first run. After the model is cached in your browser, the background removal itself works without sending anything over the network, because it all runs on your device.

Can I use the results commercially?

Yes. The tool just produces a transparent version of your own image. As long as you have the rights to the photo you upload, you can use the cutout wherever you need, including product listings and marketing.
