Background Remover
Upload a photo or drag and drop
PNG or JPG. Your photo is processed on your device and never uploaded.
Runs entirely in your browser using an on-device AI model. Your photo is never uploaded. Output is a transparent PNG.
Cut out the background from a photo and get a clean transparent PNG, without uploading your image to anyone. Unlike most background removers, this one runs the AI model directly in your browser: your photo is processed on your own device and never sent to a server. Upload a picture of a person, product, or object, and get a ready-to-use cutout you can drop onto any background, a store listing, a slide, or a design. The first run downloads a small model once; after that it works instantly.
How to use this tool
- 1Upload a photo (PNG or JPG) with a clear subject.
- 2Click Remove background and wait - the first run downloads the AI model once (about 45 MB).
- 3Preview the cutout on the checkerboard (transparent) background.
- 4Download the transparent PNG.
- 5Place it on any background in a design tool, slide, or store listing.
Example
Upload a product photo on a plain or busy background, remove the background, and download the PNG. Drop it onto a white or branded background for a consistent store listing.
Upload a portrait, remove the background, and you get a clean cutout of the person on transparency, ready to place onto a poster, thumbnail, or slide.
Common use cases
- Making a transparent product photo for a store listing or catalogue
- Cutting out a person or pet to drop onto a new background
- Creating a clean headshot cutout for a slide, badge, or profile
- Removing a busy background so a subject stands out in a design
- Preparing a logo or object photo as a transparent PNG
Common mistakes
- Expecting perfect edges on fine hair or fur - AI cutouts are very good but tricky wisps can need a touch-up in an editor.
- Using a low-contrast subject - a subject that blends into the background is harder to separate cleanly; a clearer photo gives a better cutout.
- Saving as JPG afterwards - JPG has no transparency, so keep the PNG if you need the see-through background.
- Worrying the first run is slow - that is the one-time model download; later runs are fast because it is cached.
Frequently asked questions
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. This is the key difference from most background removers. The AI model runs entirely in your browser, so your photo is processed on your own device and never uploaded. Only the model itself is downloaded to you, not the other way around.
Why is the first run slow?
The first time you use it, your browser downloads the AI model (about 45 MB) once. That model is then cached, so every later background removal starts immediately. The download only happens the first time.
What do I get out?
A PNG with a transparent background, so you can place the subject on any colour or scene. The preview shows a checkerboard pattern where the background used to be, which represents transparency.
What kind of photos work best?
Photos with a clear subject - a person, product, animal, or object - work best. Good lighting and contrast between the subject and background give the cleanest cutout. Very low-contrast or cluttered scenes are harder.
Does it need an internet connection?
Only for the one-time model download on the first run. After the model is cached in your browser, the background removal itself works without sending anything over the network, because it all runs on your device.
Can I use the results commercially?
Yes. The tool just produces a transparent version of your own image. As long as you have the rights to the photo you upload, you can use the cutout wherever you need, including product listings and marketing.
