Common mistakes
- Expecting the JPG to be smaller than the HEIC - HEIC is very efficient, so the JPG is often the same size or larger. Use the Image Compressor afterward if size matters.
- Setting quality too low for important photos - very low quality adds visible artifacts; 85-95% is a good range.
- Assuming transparency is preserved - photos have no transparency, so JPG is fine; if you need transparency, use HEIC to PNG instead.
- Uploading a non-HEIC file - this tool expects HEIC/HEIF; for other formats use the matching converter.

What is a HEIC file?
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container, also called HEIF) is the photo format iPhones and iPads use by default since iOS 11. It stores high quality in a smaller file than JPG, but it is not supported everywhere, which is why converting to JPG is often necessary for sharing.
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion uses a WebAssembly decoder that runs entirely in your browser. Your photos are never uploaded, which matters for personal images, and the tool works offline once the page has loaded.
Will I lose quality converting HEIC to JPG?
There is a small quality change because JPG is lossy, but at 90% quality it is very hard to notice. For the closest match to the original, choose a higher quality; for smaller files, choose lower. HEIC to PNG is lossless if you need an exact copy.
Can I convert many HEIC photos at once?
Yes. Add as many as you like and they convert one after another. When several are done you can download them together as a single zip file instead of saving each one by hand.
Why is the JPG not smaller than the HEIC?
HEIC uses very efficient compression, so a JPG of the same photo is often a similar size or larger. That is normal. If you need smaller files, run the JPGs through the Image Compressor after converting.
