Common mistakes

  • Expecting a small file - PNG is lossless and is usually much larger than the HEIC. If size matters, use HEIC to JPG or compress the PNG afterward.

Why convert HEIC to PNG instead of JPG?

Choose PNG when you want a lossless copy with no compression artifacts, or when a tool specifically requires PNG. Choose JPG when you want a smaller file for sharing. PNG files are larger, but they preserve the image exactly.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. The HEIC is decoded and the PNG created entirely in your browser using WebAssembly. Nothing is uploaded, so your photos stay private, and the tool works offline once the page has loaded.

Why is the PNG so much larger than the HEIC?

HEIC uses efficient lossy compression, while PNG stores full pixel data with lossless compression. A PNG of the same photo is commonly several times larger than the HEIC. That is expected for a lossless format.

Can I convert several HEIC files at once?

Yes. Add a batch and they convert one after another. When more than one is finished you can download them together as a single zip file.

Does converting to PNG lose any quality?

No. PNG is lossless, so the converted image keeps exactly the detail present in the decoded HEIC. There is no additional quality loss from the PNG step itself.
