Shipping Label Cropper - Crop to 4x6 for Thermal Printers

Upload PDF or drag and drop

Shipping label PDF (any size page)

Shipping carriers often provide labels as a full 8.5x11 PDF page with the 4x6 label in the top or bottom half. If you print that full page on a thermal printer, the label comes out wrong. This tool lets you crop exactly the label area - use a one-click preset for the most common positions (top half, bottom half, quarter zones) or drag to select any custom region. Download the result as a 4x6 PDF ready for your thermal printer, or as a PNG for printers that accept images. Runs entirely in your browser.

How to use this tool

  1. 1Upload the shipping label PDF. Multi-page PDFs are supported - use the page navigation to switch pages.
  2. 2Use a quick preset (Top half, Bottom half, Top-left quarter, Top-right quarter) to select the label area with one click if it matches your carrier's layout.
  3. 3Alternatively, drag directly on the PDF preview to draw a custom selection around the label.
  4. 4The selected area is shown with a teal border. Click 'Download 4x6 PDF' to save the cropped label as a 4x6 inch PDF for thermal printers, or 'Download PNG' for image format.
  5. 5Repeat for each page if the PDF has multiple labels on separate pages.

Example

eBay shipping label (USPS, top half of page)

eBay provides USPS labels as an 8.5x11 PDF with the label in the top half. Select 'Top half' preset. Download the 4x6 PDF. Send to a Rollo or Zebra ZP450 thermal printer at 4x6 size. The label prints correctly with no scaling needed.

Amazon FBA label (bottom portion, custom crop)

An Amazon FBA shipment label sits in the lower third of the page. No preset matches exactly. Drag to select just the label area. Download as PNG. Import the PNG into the thermal printer driver and print at 4x6 actual size.

Common use cases

  • eBay, Etsy, and Amazon sellers printing shipping labels on Zebra, Dymo, or Rollo thermal printers
  • Shopify store owners whose carrier integration generates full-page PDFs instead of 4x6 labels
  • Small businesses processing returns where the packing slip and return label are on the same page
  • Couriers and dispatch teams who receive label PDFs from clients in various non-standard sizes
  • Anyone who prints shipping labels daily and wants to avoid wasted label stock from incorrect sizes

Common mistakes

  • Printing the full-page PDF on a 4x6 thermal printer without cropping - the printer will scale the entire page to fit, making the label very small and potentially unreadable by scanners.
  • Using a preset that does not match the carrier's label position - always check the preview before downloading. If a preset does not match, use drag-to-select for a precise crop.
  • Downloading the PNG and then letting the print driver scale it - always print PNG files at 100% actual size (no scaling) and set the paper size to 4x6 in your print dialog.
  • Forgetting to check multi-page PDFs - some carriers put one label per page. Use the page navigation to process each label separately.

Frequently asked questions

Which thermal printers does this work with?

The 4x6 PDF output is designed for Zebra LP2844, ZP450, GX420d, Rollo X1038, Dymo LabelWriter 4XL, and similar 4x6 direct thermal label printers. When printing, set the paper size to 4x6 inches and the scaling to 100% (no fit to page).

My label is not in the top or bottom half - what do I do?

Use the drag-to-select option. Click and drag on the PDF preview image to draw a rectangle around exactly the label area you need. The presets cover the most common positions but you are not limited to them.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. All processing happens in your browser using pdfjs-dist (rendering) and pdf-lib (PDF creation). Your files never leave your device.

Can I process multiple labels from the same PDF?

Yes. Use the page navigation arrows to move between pages and crop each label individually. Each download creates a separate 4x6 file for that page.

Does this work with encrypted or password-protected PDFs?

No. The tool cannot open password-protected PDFs. Remove the password using a PDF application before uploading.

Can I crop labels from image files (JPG, PNG) instead of PDFs?

Currently this tool accepts PDF files only. If you have a JPG or PNG label, use the Image Resizer or ecommerce product image tools for basic sizing. This tool is specifically designed for PDF shipping labels.

The downloaded PDF does not print at the right size - what should I do?

When printing, ensure the paper size is set to 4x6 inches and the scaling is set to 100% or 'actual size' (not 'fit to page'). The PDF is created at exactly 4x6 inches (288 x 432 PDF points). Most thermal printer drivers will default to fit-to-page - disable this before printing.
