Is my video uploaded to a server?
No. The extraction uses ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, which runs entirely in your browser. Your video never leaves your device, which is important for personal recordings, and the engine is cached after the first use.
Why is the first conversion slow?
The first time you use the tool, it downloads the converter engine, which is about 30 MB. That happens once and is then cached by your browser, so later conversions start much faster. Extraction speed also depends on the length of the video and your device.
What audio quality will I get?
The audio is decoded from the video and re-encoded at 44.1 kHz. For MP3 you choose the bitrate (128 to 320 kbps); WAV and FLAC are lossless from the extracted audio. The quality cannot exceed what was in the original video.
Can I extract audio from a large video?
Yes, up to a 500 MB guard, but bear in mind everything happens in memory in your browser. Long or high-resolution videos use a lot of RAM and are slower, especially on phones and older computers.
Does it also work for MOV and WebM?
Yes. MOV (common from iPhones and Macs) and WebM both work, along with MKV and others. Upload the file and the tool handles the container and audio codec for you.
